You talk, we correct your English.

Give a  talk in English or listen and join the discussion. At the end your English host reviews your language skills.

You’ve studied English the traditional way.
Now for something better.

At Talk2040 you won’t practice asking directions to Piccadilly Circus.

Be inspired!

Give a short talk in English in your expert field, or on any topic of interest. Then take questions in English from other learners.

At the end, the native English host gives you on the spot language tips for improvement.

Improve your English for presentations, speeches, interviews and client interaction.

How does Talk2040 work?

Talk2040 is held over Zoom.

The host is a mother-tongue English language professional, who listens while you speak then corrects your mistakes after you finish.

Your listeners can ask you questions too, in English. Everyone gets a chance to practice and improve.

Later everyone can download a video and a transcript to see where their errors are, and also hear and read the corrections.

Talk2040 sessions provide a real setting to actually test what
you’ve learned in traditional lessons.

With a native speaker as your host, the sessions are the ideal place to make mistakes, uncovering precise areas for improvement.

As a Speaker

(First 20 minutes)

Talk in English on your topic for up to 10 minutes. Your English host will then note many of your language errors, helping you uncover areas for improvement.

As a Listener

(Final 40 minutes)

Join the 30 minute discussion and ask questions in English. The English host will catch some of your language errors and correct them.

All Participants

(Forever)

Download a video of the talk and a transcript of the language corrections. Hearing and reviewing the corrections strengthens your language acquistion.

Video and transcript, to reinforce learning

Consult them both until you master your weak areas.

Use the video to pin-point your speaking errors, especially pronunciation.

Reviewing the video after a talk

Quickly consult the error transcript

The English host verbally corrects many errors during the meeting, but you can also download a permanent record later on.

You can also request a full transcript of your talk as a speaker, or as a listener asking questions, with all mistakes highlighted and corrected.

TEST YOUR PROGRESS

Compilation Test

If you attend enough sessions over time, both as a speaker and a listener, you will notice an improvement in your language skills.

To help you measure your progress, after a number of sessions you can take a short test.

The host will prepare the test from a compilation of your personal grammar and pronunciation errors, as highlighted and corrected during the live sessions.

Who can take part?

Except for the English host, everyone participating speaks English as a second language. Open talks are for anyone with something interesting to talk about.

Academic talks include academics and students from the same or various institutions.

Business talks include professionals / employees who use English in their job, from the same or various companies.  You can request a talk exclusively with your colleagues or students.
